BOODLES POLICY ON CONFLICT DIAMONDS

Boodles diamonds have always been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and in compliance with United Nations resolutions. Boodles guarantee that all our diamonds are conflict free, based on our personal knowledge and/or written guarantees provided by the suppliers of our diamonds.

HOW DO BOODLES JUDGE THE QUALITY OF A GEMSTONE?

At Boodles we will be very pleased to show you the fundamentals that define a gemstone's value. These are Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat (weight) - the 4 C's for short. But these are only part of the story.

As experts we know what it takes to know diamonds in detail. Even the technical certificate cannot tell you everything. The aesthetic appeal is equally important. Whatever you choose you can rely on Boodles to have only one standard. We only sell the best looking of the highest quality grades.

All Boodles smaller diamonds are graded 'Collection quality' - this means they are the finest white brightest and cleanest diamonds you can buy. Larger Boodles diamonds are rated by internationally recognised standards of white, rare white and exceptional white colour grades.

We source our stones directly from the world's diamond cutting centres, enabling us to examine and assess every single diamond as exceptional. We only ever select a small proportion of those diamonds that reach our stringent technical specification.
By all means come to us first, then look around to see what you can get of similar quality for the same price. It’s funny how many people come back to Boodles.

AN INSTANT EXPERT'S GUIDE TO GEMSTONES

Diamonds: The whiter the better, the clearer the better. A good diamond should be at least the colour of a gin and tonic. (We'll provide the drink, and not just for comparison purposes ).

Emeralds, Rubies and Sapphires: Not too light, not too dark. The more intense the colour, the better the stone.

Kunzites, tanzanites, aquamarines, citrines: These pretty gemstones are all very individual, so pick the one that suits your colouring best of all.

All gems: No perceptible specks or dark marks.

The cut: Should be even, regular, light reflecting.

The 'finish': Look for excellent polish and symmetry. You'll be sure to find this with every stone at Boodles.

HOW SHOULD THE STONE BE MOUNTED?

Boodles is right at the forefront of British jewellery design, and you can choose between traditional classics and more innovative styles.

While you are considering the mount, remember we can add a personal touch by engraving your names, your initials, a date, or a little message on the inside of the band.
By the way, the mount and the underside of any gemstone will benefit from an occasional ultrasonic bath to maintain the original brilliance. So bring your ring into Boodles as often as you like - we offer this cleaning as a lifetime complimentary service.

THE PARTS OF A RING

Shank: The band portion of the ring, which encircles the finger

Claw: The tiny 'point' that, with others, holds a stone securely in place

Hallmark: A guarantee of authenticity, stamped on precious metal after it has been independently tested; Assay mark, Gold standard mark (in carats), Date mark, Maker's mark. Boodles also hand engrave their rings: BOODLES.

STYLES OF RING

Solitaire - a single - solitary - stone, mounted in any setting, which shows it to its best advantage.

Solitaire with tapered baguettes - flanking stones - lead the eye to the
central stone

Rubover setting - the stone is held in place by gold or platinum rubbed over the 'girdle' of the stone.

SHAPES OF STONES

The shape of a stone refers to the way a stone is cut. Most familiar is the Round Brilliant cut diamond. Princess, Emerald, Marquise, Pear and Oval cuts are also perfect for engagement rings. Boodles believe cut to be paramount; all our stones are rigorously vetted for brilliance and artistry of cut. So whatever shape you choose, the choice will be dazzling.
